There are thousands of pay per print providers and sign shops that print one-off posters, signs, banners and more every day. This media needs to be easy to use, produce great color, and withstand a variety of known and unknown stresses.
Adhesive backed signage includes standard posters, package prototypes, retail/trade show graphics and a million and one other applications that we may never think of ourselves. While much of the industry relies on vinyl for this application; Sihl manufactures a wide variety of durable, adhesive print media, including wet strength paper, polypropylene, scrim banner and yes, self adhesive vinyl.

3222Let’s admit it; we are all a little lazy at heart. Blueback or blockout papers and films allow you to “post” a new graphic directly on top of an old one or directly on top of a dark surface, without any show through of the graphic or surface below. They also allow you to display a sign or graphic in any lighting environment, without worrying about the image being washed out from light showing through.
When pennies count, finding a lower cost print media that still has the color gamut, density and drytime of its more expensive cousins is not always easy. Maybe you are flexible on certain factors like drytime, hand or weight because you are running high volume. Maybe you are knowledgeable enough about your printer and the ink (maybe you run a custom profile) to know what factors are important to your production and what factors you can be more flexible on.
While much of the industry relies on vinyl for this application; Sihl manufactures a wide variety of non-PVC, durable, outdoor print media, including wet strength paper, polypropylene, scrim banner and yes, self adhesive vinyl. So what makes a durable, outdoor print media? A material that will not shrink, crack or breakdown with extended outdoor exposure and an adhesive that can stick to outdoor surfaces without falling off when wet.
From sunup to sundown, photo paper still tops the list of most commonly used media in wide format print shops. Print production requires a paper that is easy to profile, print, and process. The paper should have a good weight (hand), an even finish and a smooth, consistent coating from the beginning of the roll to the end.

When it comes to tear resistance, we know what you really want to know. If the printed graphic is stressed during installation, exposed to wind or other outdoor elements, or will be displayed where people can harm it, how resistant is it to these influences? All Sihl products have undergone official tear strength testing, the results of which are available in the product specifications.
The terms water proof and water resistant are used to describe many products in many industries, some correctly and some incorrectly. In the inkjet print market, water resistant indicates a material and coating that can withstand small amounts of water, or ambient humidity and moisture, without negatively impacting the printed or unprinted areas.
